How to Use the Idaho Paycheck Calculator
Enter what you earn
Type your salary and choose whether that figure is annual or hourly. The calculator recalculates as you type — there is no submit button.
Pick how often you are paid
Weekly, every two weeks, twice a month or monthly. This decides how the annual tax is spread across your cheques, and bi-weekly is 26 cheques a year rather than 24.
Choose your filing status
Single, married filing jointly, or head of household. This sets both your federal standard deduction and which bracket table applies, and for Idaho it can widen the state brackets too.
Add deductions if they apply
Open the optional row to enter a 401(k) percentage, annual health premiums, children under 17 and any extra withholding from your W-4. Most people can leave these alone.

How Idaho taxes your paycheck
Idaho uses 1 graduated tax brackets ranging from 5.3% to 5.3%. Like federal tax, the rates are marginal: a higher bracket applies only to the income above that threshold, never to your whole salary. The first $4,811 of taxable income is not taxed at all.
Federal withholding is the larger deduction for most people. It runs on the 2026 brackets after your standard deduction — $16,100 for a single filer, $32,200 filing jointly — and is reduced by $2,000 for each qualifying child you claim on your W-4. On top of that, Social Security takes 6.2% of wages up to $184,500 and Medicare takes 1.45% with no cap.
A note on 401(k) contributions, because most calculators get this wrong: money you defer into a traditional 401(k) lowers your income tax but not your Social Security or Medicare tax. Pre-tax health premiums lower both.

Frequently asked questions
How much is taken out of my paycheck in Idaho?
In Idaho you pay federal income tax, Social Security at 6.2%, Medicare at 1.45%, and Idaho state income tax of 5.3%–5.3%. For a typical single filer earning $65,000, total withholding usually lands between 20% and 27% of gross pay.
Does Idaho have a state income tax?
Yes. Idaho uses graduated brackets from 5.3%–5.3%, so higher earnings are taxed at higher marginal rates.
Why is my actual paycheck different from this estimate?
The three usual reasons are the W-4 on file with your employer, benefit deductions this calculator does not know about, and local taxes. Employers also use IRS withholding tables that annualise each individual cheque, so a month with a bonus or overtime can be withheld at a higher rate and then settle up when you file.
How do I increase my take-home pay?
The lever most people have is the W-4. If you get a large refund every year you are over-withholding, and adjusting step 3 or step 4(b) puts that money in each cheque instead. Beyond that, pre-tax health premiums and an HSA reduce both income tax and FICA, which a 401(k) contribution does not.
Is this calculator accurate for hourly work in Idaho?
Yes. Switch the "per" dropdown to Hour and enter your hourly rate — it assumes a 40-hour week and 52 weeks a year, then runs the same 2026 federal and Idaho tax tables against the annual figure.
